Miles o' Fun

Good Friday was Miles' first day off of work in quite a while.  I talked him out of making me do yard work until the next day, but couldn't quite talk him into seeing Water for Elephants.

We started our day off with a small healthy portion of food at Cracker Barrell.  What?  Your Cracker Barrell doesn't have small healthy, just right portions?  That's weird, mine does.  What your Cracker Barrell might also be missing is an all-out horendous allergy attack.  But, mine had that too!  My allergies make me look like I am having a really bad day, even when I am not. Our waitress kept shooting Miles dirty looks after she asked if we were ready, and I responded tearfully that we needed a minute.  I am pretty sure she thought we needed a minute to work things out.

That afternoon we headed to the Omni Theater to see Tornado Alley.  (Miles is obsessed with weather, his weather scanner, the weather service website, and any other weather-related news.)  My favorite part of going to Omni is the helicopter ride at the beginning.  I don't know if I can explain this, if you've never experienced it yourself!  The helicopter ride has been a part of the movies playing at Omni, since I can remember.  I've always loved the helicopter ride they take you on before it starts, but it has new meaning in my life....embarrassing Miles.  Each time we go, I pretend to be in a helicopter, all excited and anxious, and I point out landmarks to him with big pointing gestures.  The best is when all of my friends stand on the top of the museum to wave at me, and I get to wave at them from up in my helicopter.  He loves it.  ;)
When we were buying our tickets to the movie, we got free tickets to the museum exhibits using the rest of a coupon from the family in front of us.  So, after the glorified episode of Storm Chasers, we headed out to culture ourselves.

Lo and behold - Energy Blast.  Miles wasn't excited or anything...
This exhibit details the way the Barnett Shale was formed and how we get natural gas from deep below the surface.  Miles is a landman, so our day had just turned into his Day o' Fun at this discovery. Eventually, I had to drag him out of there, reminding him, "I don't like science.  I can only take so much."  And, please don't try to convince me that science affects my life daily.  I am an adult and can't be fooled.

Poor PK

Look at this beautiful place...
It's been on fire for a long time, now.  Possum Kingdom and surrounding areas have been hit really hard by this wildfire.  So many people have been asking about Miles' family's home, and we really appreciate the concern.  There has not been any report of the fire moving to the peninsula, where their home is located.  We hope that remains the case, but our heart goes out to the MANY people who have lost homes, pets, lakehouses, and other property.  So, so sad.

Happy Birthday

Happy 24th Birthday, Sarina!

It's my sister-in-law's birthday today.  She is married to Matt, Miles' brother, and one of my closest friends.  To celebrate, I thought we'd do a Get to Know Sarina session.  So, here are some things you need to know about the birthday girl, Sarina:

1) She has beautiful hair.
2) She does not like when you mess up "perfect hair" pictures with a funny face.

3) She will try to kill you, actually.

4) She doesn't stay mad too long.

5) She is fun, sweet, funny, and not 24.
Hope you have a Perfect Hair Birthday, Sarina!! Love you!

Working Hard or Hardly Working?

This week has been all about work:

work-work, house work, and yard work.

I wish that after many days of not blogging, I had something substantial to share, but I really don't.  So, I'll just try to keep it to some random tidbits about my week; while insignificant, they've got to be more interesting than all that business.  I will say that I wielded the hedge trimmers last night and went to town on our bushes in the front yard!  This excited me to no end, and the bushes actually survived.

Monday, I went to the grocery store, and I just want to see if any one else's experience at the grocery store is similar to my own....  When I go grocery shopping, I am on a mission.  I am there to do one thing - buy food and get out.  Anyway, my Tom Thumb is full of workers who want to have a twenty minute conversation about dinner ideas and plans, about how things have changed in the world, or whatever.  I appreciate good customer service and people-pleasing employees, but they cross a boundary into annoying.  If anything, I am downplaying how obnoxious and time-consuming this really is.  My point being, when I am old and lonely, I will shop at this Tom Thumb and truly thrive there.  While I am young and annoyed, I will shop at this Tom Thumb and complain to y'all about it.

Miles and I went to the driving range on Tuesday.

He is playing in two charity golf tournaments this weekend to help him reach his total of 4 rounds of golf per year.  It was a really pretty evening, so the driving range was packed. Although we were really there for Miles to get some practice in,  I took a few "warm-up" shots that have my back still sore in areas that I didn't know could get sore. Sad, I know.  It was a lot of fun, though, and if we could get up there more, I think we'd both be pretty good (and less sore later)!

The last thing I am going to share is that Miles and I cannot commit to a vacation.  We have ISSUES.  This is a trip we have been trying to get on the books since November.  Do y'all think it could have to do with being the youngest in our families and people usually making/planning iteneraries for us?  I don't know.  What I do know, is that we will decide one thing and  back off of it, decide on a another place or time and back off of it, and repeat.  We are not commitment-phobes in any other area of our lives.  But, we can't commit to guaranteed fun and relaxation!?  We are weird.

That's all, folks.

The Pioneer Woman Makes Everything Look Easy

A little over three weeks ago I got the shellac on my nails from a local salon.  I hardly ever take the time to go get manicures and pedicures, and I always mess up my polish or don't remove it for way too long afterward.  Even when doing my own nails, I  have the amazing ability to be really lazy about repainting them or even taking off my polish. When I heard that this shellac treatment was more of an acrylic, wouldn't mess up, and would stay on without chipping for two weeks, I decided to go for it.  The results were great!

Two weeks later, my nails had begun to grow out, but it still wasn't bad enough for me to remove (refer to earlier comment about being lazy).  I stumbled upon an older post of Pioneer Woman's detailing her own shellac experience and removal.  (See, to remove the shellac, the salon wants you to come back, pay them to remove the shellac, tell you how, "dry your hand look", and tell you that, "you should get manicure today.")
PW bought pure acetone, soaked her fingernails to begin peeling of shellac, and gently scraped the shellac away.  Today, I bought pure acetone, soaked my fingernails...soaked my fingernails....no peeling, scraped the shellac...scraped the shellac, SCRAPED the shellac..., soaked my fingernails...you get the picture.

And, still, no clean, strong nail here.  Look how scary my skin looked.   I used my nails to scrape and scrape and that hurt them, too.  It just was a lot harder than she made it out to be.  I outsmarted the shellac at one point and cut my nails down to create the effect that I was successful.  Don't look too closely.  Pioneer Woman makes everything look easy.

Freckles, Moles, and Sun Spots

**Added photo to please my fans...

Yep. This was going to be the name of my blog.  Luckily, one good friend told me, "No, Michelle, no." You may wonder why I might name my blog after skin disorders(?), but, if that is the case, then you do not know me well.  I have freckles, my husband has moles, and we have sunny spots (and sun spots) in our life.   Punny!?  "No, Michelle, no."  Thank you, Heidi!  So, I settled on my love for sweets, sweetness, and my sweetie to come up with the final title.

Miles and I celebrated our first anniversary on Saturday! We went to Reatta in downtown Fort Worth.  Since this was before the 100mph wind storms arrived in town, we were lucky to have a beautiful night on the roof there.  We both got big fancy meals, and it was fantastic.  Did you know that the Reatta can handle about an 80 person (yes, I asked) reception on the rooftop?  Well, we didn't either, but they do! And, did you know they have the audio abilities to allow a PA system for toasts, announcements, and.........karaoke!? Well, we didnt' either, but they do! Why someone would allow anyone to karaoke at their wedding reception is beyond me.  I seriously have never heard of such a thing.  Especially karaoke at a wedding reception in which not only the wedding patrons will be able to hear your screaching, but the whole restaurant is witness to the massacre of Kenny Chesney's "Big Orange Balls."  Oh my goodness.  Really, though, we had a special night celebrating our first year of marriage and our EIGHTH year together.  M&M!

Does anyone else's iPhone actually DIE when it dies? I was on a marathon phone conversation last night with Britney (sadly about work), so, naturally, I ignored all the warnings of my battery dying.  I hate when I do that because, as mentioned above, my phone literally must have to die, go to heaven, and then regain consciousness before it will get enough battery to even power up. By that time people tend to think you didn't just drop their call and you are, in fact, just being completely rude.  Britney didn't think that, of course.  She knows I don't intentionally do rude things, because I can't handle people being mad at me. :)

I am a first time blogger, so we'll see where the posts take us and how it all goes in time! Leave a comment and let me know what you think.
